Durable Laminate Floors

Laminate floors have a wear-resistant decorative surface made of resin-based melamine which makes the floor extremely durable and difficult to stain, scratch or burn.

Laminate is a floating floor, which means it does not fasten directly to the sub-floor. Most laminate floors use a click-system which means that the planks just click together.

If laminate is laid over a concrete sub-floor then a combi underlay with a built-in damp-proof membrane must be used.

What are Laminate Floors made from?

laminate-diagram
  1. Top – Wear Layer
The transparent top layer is a melamine resin, a hard-wearing material that is resistant to scratches, burns, dents, stains, etc.
  2. Decorative Layer (High Strength Paper)
It is this decorative paper layer that gives the floor its individual appearance and character ranging from wood, ceramic, slate or stone designs.
  3. Core layer
This layer is made from high-density fibre board (HDF). It is extremely hard as it’s saturated in resins, which also help with moisture resistance.
  4. Balancing sheet
This strong bottom layer is what gives the laminate flooring its stability.
